banned Chinese immigration
Chinese Labor:
the chinese came to america and would work for really low wages so then wages remained low for everyone, and people got pissed and went to the government to stop chinese immigration
Armenians:
Armenians came to america because of persecution. the armenians were christian people who lived south of the black sea under turkish rule. in 1894 the turks began a campaign of genocide against the armenians. by 1918 almost 2 million Armenians were killed. thousands fled to america to escape the massacres.
New Immigration:
when citizens from italy, russia, austria, and hungary started in 1881
Old Immigration:
is citizens from germany, great britain, ireland, Scandinavia, and france before 1880 would settle on open land because it was cheap

thought of many uses for penuts

a crop that is grown to be sold

started a huge strike against the railroad companies, and gained over 600,000 members

What are America’s natural resources?
 oil, aluminum, humans, gold, silver, copper, coal, and iron
Poll tax:
a fee paid by a person in order to vote
Genocide:
the deliberate destruction of a racial, cultural, and national group 
Ghetto:
a poor, run down part of a city usually occupied by members of one minority group.
Secret ballot:
a vote that is cast privately.
Gold standard:
a government money policy under which every paper dollar is equal in value to and exchangeable for a certain amount of gold.
Supply and demand:
a rule of economics stating that when demand is great for scarce goods, prices are high, but when the supply becomes greater prices
Business cycle:
a repeated pattern of booms and depressions in an economy 
Depression:
a period of drastic decline in economic activity, marked by widespread unemployment
Strike:
a work stoppage by employees usually for higher pay or better working conditions
Industrialist:
a person who owns or manages a large manufacturing business
Dividend:
a share of profits paid to stockholders
Capital:
the money and property needed to operate a business
Free Enterprise:
a system that allows private businesses to operate in competition with one another with little government regulation.
