1st 10 constitutional amendments that protected individual rights

Connecticut Compromise/Great Compromise
in the senate, each state has 2 senators and in the House of Representatives, the number of representatives is based on the population (each state gets at least 1 rep)
New Jersey Plan
wanted equal representation in all states- big states didn't like because there were so many more people in their states, that it would be like the little states are ruling the big ones
Virginia Plan
wanted representation based on population- favored by large states because they would have more representatives-also gave the idea of having 3 branches of government
What caused the founding fathers to believe that the Articles of Confederation needed to be amended or discarded?
weak central government and Shay's Rebellion. It was when the farmers didn't have money to pay debts, to they began to revolt and they eventually, they closed down the courts because then, they couldn't take anyone's property-defeated by state troops and arrested-let out eventually
With whom or what did the power of the government lie under the Articles of Confederation and why?
The states because they feared a strong central government (didn't want to end up with a king)
What were the problems with the Articles of Confederation?
no leader (president), weak central government, no national court system, no army (so they couldn't defend themselves), each state acted like its own country, each state could print their own money, so there was a restriction of trade, nobody could enforce laws (if the government wanted money, they had to ask for it), state problems
