Design I (line)

Wireframe
Mesh of points and planes in space, as in 3D computer programming.
Linear vs. Painterly
Linear images are in the tradition of drawing, while painterly images involve filling in the areas within contours to create texture and depth.
Bridge passage
Two adjacent parallel planes dissolve into one another.
Weighted line/thick and thin line
Use of varying widths and values of line based on the pressure and media used.
Lost and Found Edges
Where edges are sometimes hard and sharp and in other places are soft and blurred, making them seemingly blend together.
Gesture
Free line that suggests dynamics of scene and pose.
Implied line
An imaginary line created by placing dots or points in such a way that our minds connect them (ex. dotted or dashed lines).
Psychic line/implied force
Mental connection between two points or elements.
Explicit line
A line or edge that is clearly formed.
Outline
Real or imaginary line that describes a shape and its edges.
Cross-contour
Line that crosses and defines surface undulations up to and including the outer edges.
Contour line
Periphery line that follows the edges of forms; bounds or delimits a form or area.
Cross-hatching
Superimposing hatched lines at right angles to suggest volume or form.
Hatching
Drawing several thin, usually parallel lines close together to create areas of value.
Stippling
Producing areas of value by clustering small points or dots.
Line quality
Characteristic of a line based on weight, direction, uniformity or other features.
Dot
Smallest two-dimensional element.
Line
Path a point makes as it moves across a surface. Has length and direction, but not width.
Point
Element in space that has a definite position and technically no dimension.
