Birth of the Virgin Pietro Lorenzetti, Italian, 1342, Late Medieval. Depicts the birth of the Virgin Mary. Contains everyday (for the time) details, shown through the setting; halos are the only indication that it is a religious scene. The artwork has a shaped frame, intended to bring the viewer more into the scene, as if it is an extension of the real world. 0 CFraissi Tue, 09 Feb 2010 00:21:56 GMT view revision history
Christ Entering Jerusalem Giotto, Italian, ca. 1305-1306, Late Medieval. Part of the Arena Chapel in Padua. It is more realistic in spatial relations than previous works, and contains everyday details (ex. boy gets stuck in robes). 0 CFraissi Tue, 09 Feb 2010 00:21:56 GMT view revision history
Madonna Enthroned Cimabue, Italian, ca. 1280-1290, Late Medieval. It is similar to Byzantine artwork. There is a great use of gold to express Mary's divinity. It is more linearly convincing (ex. can map out bodies better). Jesus looks more like a child and Mary looks slightly happier. 0 CFraissi Tue, 09 Feb 2010 00:21:56 GMT view revision history
